Arab American Heritage Month

Traditional red, green, black, and white Arab weaving pattern with yellow text
April is Arab American Heritage Month, a time to honor and celebrate the culture, history, and achievements of Arab Americans. At each Yolo County Library branch, you will find a bibliography of Arab American books and a take-home craft based on traditional Bedouin weaving patterns.

Curious? Here are some resources from the Arab American National Museum to learn more about the diverse experiences and contributions of Arab Americans in our communities and across the nation:

Día de los Niños

Día de los Libros
Día de los Niños - Children's Day - Día de los Libros - Book Day
This April marks the 15th anniversary of Yolo County Library’s annual celebration of Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). Children and their families are invited to join Yolo County Library in celebrating this special event honoring young readers and families throughout the community.

County Librarian and Chief Archivist Diana Lopez invites all Yolo County residents to attend: “Día is a highlight we eagerly anticipate each year. Although our dedication to celebrating kids, families, and literacy is year-round, Día offers a special chance to host grand, exciting programs designed to encourage children's learning and growth by immersing them in a wide array of books and cultures. The Yolo County Library team has once again prepared joyful and engaging events that guarantee a wonderful time!”

Children who attend will receive a free book to keep, and each library location will host crafts, activities, and a special performance.

National Library Week

Find Your Joy, April 19–25, 2026
Celebrate National Library Week, April 19-25, 2026. Logos for the ALA, Library Champions, and Yolo County Library. Illustration of different families walking up to a library with a banner in front that reads
What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community, or something else, you can find your joy at Yolo County Library.

National Library Week is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. This year join us for a special National Library Week contest at each of our branches: Show your library love and color an "I Love My Library" coloring sheet at your local branch and turn it in to staff to be entered into a drawing for cool library swag. All ages are welcome to participate; entries are available and accepted between Sunday, April 19 and Saturday, April 25. One entry per person.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

Beginning April 19, get the newest edition library card! This new card is an image of the Yolo Bibliobus driving through our beautiful county on the way to its next stop. This card is designed by Danni Greenlee, who also designed the graphics visible on the Yolo Bibliobus, in commemoration of National Library Outreach Day on April 22 during National Library Week. The card is free for anyone getting their first card or $1 for anyone who wants to replace their existing card.
