Join Yolo County Library and celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month this May. Visit any branch library to check out our display featuring historic images and records from the Yolo County Archives.  Pick up a reading list to learn more about the vibrant history, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans. 

Celebrating AANHPI Heritage and Identity

May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage month. It is a time when we recognize the contributions and influences of Asian Pacific Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. The Yolo County Library staff has prepared cultural activities, events, and reading recommendations. 

 

A scavenger hunt activity will be at participating locations all month long!

Celebrate Asian American, Native Hawai’ian, & Pacific Islander Heritage Month with bilingual stories in Vietnamese and Mandarin, performances by Nā Keiki O Hawaiʻi Dancers and UC Davis Tinikling Dancers, and arts & crafts led by the UC Davis Delta Chapter of Sigma Omicron Pi.

Your Mind Matters

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Mental Health Awareness Month seeks to spread awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma, as well as provide support and advocacy for those struggling with mental illness and their loved ones.
 
Mental health can affect anyone, as we all encounter challenges. It's easy to forget we need to take care of our minds as much as our bodies. We hope this month you take time to examine and focus on what you need to feel more mentally centered and fulfilled.

Acompáñanos en la biblioteca de Yolo en un evento especial con Ramona Garcia, quien narrará la historia de las muñecas de papel maché mientras creas tu propia muñeca.

 

En este taller de dos horas, coserás y crearás tu propia muñeca utilizando formas moldeadas, hilo, adornos y pintura. También aprenderás sobre la historia de la muñeca de papel maché como una forma de arte tradicional e indígena de México, así como su uso en prácticas de arteterapia.

Join us for a soothing session of mindfulness and meditation, led by a certified guide, paired with the calming presence of adoptable cats and kittens from Yolo County Animal Services. You’ll learn simple techniques to quiet the mind and reduce stress, all while surrounded by the gentle purrs and playful antics of some furry friends looking for their forever homes. It’s the purr-fect way to relax, recharge, and maybe even meet your new best friend!

Join Yolo County Library Foundation and County Supervisor Mary Vixie Sandy on Saturday, May 17th at 6 pm at the Woodland United Methodist Church for their first-annual joint community fundraising event! It will be a multicultural feast from House of Shah with live music from Mariachi Los Claveles. The event supports programming and materials across all branches of the Yolo County Library, particularly for the most under-resourced individuals and regions. Purchase your tickets here. Join us at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library's fourth annual Trucktopia event! Sit inside a fire truck, enter an ambulance, take photos in a police car and sign up for the 2025 Summer Reading Program. All ages are invited to attend.
