Women's History Month

Moving Forward Together!
Women Educating & Inspiring Generations
In 2025, Women's History Month highlights the invaluable contributions of female teachers, celebrating their dedication to shaping future generations and empowering students through education.

Displays at each library branch will highlight the hard work of local teachers through newspaper articles, photographs, and other documents from the Yolo County Archives.

Join us for an Equali-Tea Party at Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento on Friday, March 14, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

"Picturing Yolo County" Exhibition
Opening Reception on March 6th, 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Resored painting of a white woman with black hair tied back and simple black dress in a gold frame
In 2023, the Yolo County Historical Collection sent fifteen frames and nine paintings to conservators to be restored. “Picturing Yolo County” features these newly restored portraits made by and for Yolo County residents during the late 1800s.

These portraits, while similar in style, exemplify the different ways that local artists chose to work within this art form, including the ways in which women artists were trained in, and engaged with, this art form. This exhibition examines Yolo County portraiture through the work of six 19th-century local artists, five of which are women: Phoebe Olevia Hodgen, Calthea Campbell Vivian, Clara Brown, Louis Grund Joran, Carrie Blowers and Annie Blowers.
Picture Yourself in Yolo County Project
The Yolo County Historical Collection strives to create diverse exhibitions that show the history of all Yolo County residents. The goal of the Picture Yourself in Yolo County project is to work towards the telling of a more inclusive history through community collaboration. If you want to see yourself in the Gibson House, use the Picture Yourself activity found here.
