Native American Heritage Month
Please join us as we celebrate Native American Heritage Month 2024!

Partake in a special Native American Heritage Month storytime as we share Native storytelling, read books celebrating Indigenous culture, and listen to traditional Native American music.

Programs such as a Native American Beaded Jewelry Workshop and a Native Southwest Pottery Class will be held for community members interested in learning more about Native American artwork.

Be sure to pick up a Native American cultural activity bag at one of our library branches. All the materials within each bag have been generously provided by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. These activity bags are recommended for the entire family and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.

We look forward to celebrating Native American Heritage Month with you all here at the Yolo County Library.

Dia de Los Muertos

November 1 - 2

Decorative day of the dead banner with candles, deocrative skulls, and orange marigolds.
Join Yolo County Library to celebrate Día de los Muertos! Pick up a Día de los Muertos Kit at your local Yolo County Library branch while supplies last, and attend fun Día de los Muertos celebrations.

Día de los Muertos, known as Day of the Dead in English, is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd to honor deceased loved ones. While rooted in Mexico, it is also celebrated throughout Latin America and by communities around the world.

It’s a joyous occasion that blends ancient Aztec rituals with Catholic influences. Families create altares (altars) to welcome spirits back to the world of the living, decorating them with photos, candles, marigolds, and offerings like food and calaveras (sugar skulls).

The vibrant celebration reflects the belief that death is a natural part of life, and remembering those who have passed keeps their memory alive.
