Want to learn more about Native American history and culture?

Check out the Shared History Kit, created by the Yolo County Historical Collection, Yolo County Archives and YoloArts. It has resources that are adaptable for students Kindergarten through 6th grade and focuses on familiarizing students with Northern California Native American tribes and traditions.

The kit contains resources that are intended to give students an understanding of various aspects of culture, including language, food, and storytelling. This kit asks questions such as 'what is culture?' 'how do we connect to a place?' and 'how do we transmit our stories and traditions?'

Physical kits can be checked out through the Yolo County Library's catalog or download a digital version of the kit [pdf]

We look forward to celebrating Native American Heritage Month with you all here at the Yolo County Library!

New: California Library Literacy Adult New Reader Collection

The California Library Literacy Services volunteer tutors and staff have created a collection of Adult New Reader books to support adults learning to read in English.

Here are three books from the collection. Here Come the Pigs! is a mystery about wild pigs that visit a couple's home. Stress is a story about how one woman coped with the stress in her life. California's National Parks is a story about what you can see in each of the nine parks in our beautiful state of California.
